CARLO ALBERTO CANEVALI

Musician and Drummer

Every musician knows the importance of silence. He or she knows there could not be music without an empty space in which sound could  move with its rhythm and nature. In music we call that silence, rest.

Drummer Carlo Alberto Canevali, after many years of study and expressive/aesthetic growth is perfectly aware of this truth and listening to him is like adventuring into a large space in which the drummer plays  vivid coloured notes,  sometimes violent, asymmetric grooves, flowing drumming, very often with virtousism, or barely audible fine rhythmic textures.

Max Roach, Art Blakey, Philly Jo Jones, Tony Williams, Peter Erskine Jack De Johnette, Paul Motian, Jon Christensen, Tony Oxley are among his influences.

His distinctive and original approach is combining this background, shared by many other musician around European aesthetics, with live electronics and performing with unconventional drumsets and everyday objects turned into unusual “percussion instruments”.

His long experience in music production allowed him to cover artistic direction in some jazz festivals and set up an independent label, nBn Records,  to gather many musician with the same aesthetic under the same brand.
